Transformer of the Day for April 3, 2009

AIR RAID

-Faction: Autobot (Aerialbot)
-Era: Generation One (1984-1992)
-Function: Warrior
-Motto:
If You Look First You May Not Leap
-Notable Toy: Generation 2 (Hasbro, 1994)

Notes: I don’t seem to remember Air Raid getting a lot of particular focus compared to his Aerialbot colleagues in the cartoon. But an Autobot jet based on the same F-14 as the Decepticon seekers is pretty cool. And there is something charming about his G2 paint applications. Almost vaguely Leader One-esque…

(Apologies and thanks to shmax.com and bbts.com for the toy image.)

  1. I always liked Air Raid. Mostly because he was one of the few G1 toys I had and the only Aerial Bot. I never had a full Transformers combiner (only GoBot Puzzler). Heck I never had too many actual TFs either, mostly Gobots. Oddly I had like one limb from several combiners. Air Raid was one, I had the bird one from the Terrorcons, the bike from Computron.

One memory I do have of the combiners that I still have. My dad used to travel for work every few month by plane. We’d have to go down tot he airport some nights and wait for him to arrive. This is in Springfield IL airport so the place was generally deserted. One day there was a kid there with like 3 or 4 complete combiners including the Aerial Bots. I’d never known anyone with all of any of them. It was Awesome.
